Harpersfield Covered Bridge Metropark
The Harpersfield Covered Bridge Metropark is the most recognized park in the Geneva area.
It is located on Harpersfield Road at the Grand River dam where many
fishermen angle for trout (in spring and fall), bluegill, crappie, large- and
smallmouth bass, etc. There are public picnic areas and pavilions on both sides
of the river, plus recreational fields and public restrooms. Shallows below the
dam provide children with hours of entertainment.
It is here that the annual Mad Hatters canoe race is launched each April with guidance and cooperation of our neighboring Lake Metroparks System.
And, for those who are not up to the challenge of early spring "white water" canoeing,
there is a canoe livery available for rentals if one doesn't own such a watercraft. For
more information, or to register for the Mad Hatters canoe race, please contact the Lake
Metroparks at (440) 358-7275 or 1-800-669-9226.
Please see the Friends of the Parks web page
for important news about volunteer work schedules. Join the Friends of the Parks.
operated Bait Shop by the north parking lot provides hunting and fishing licenses, bait, and limited refreshments.
The park is open to the general public during the day from early springtime
until October when the annual Covered Bridge Festival is celebrated.
From that time until April, parking is limited.
There is no
overnight camping in the park except by pre-arrangement with the Ashtabula County Metroparks
District for organized groups. You may call (440) 576-0717 or fax (440)
576-0727 for more information.
If you would like to reserve a pavilion or recreational area at the Harpersfield Covered Bridge Metropark,
please contact the Ashtabula County Metroparks at 440-576-0717. Unless a reservation has been made for the
pavilions and recreational areas, or an ACMP event has been scheduled, these areas are available on a "first
come, first served" basis. This is a public park and is intended for the enjoyment of everyone. Please be
sure to clean up after yourself and carry your trash out or use the dumpster provided at the park. Thank
you for your support and cooperation.
The Harpersfield Covered Bridge Metropark is near the intersection of Interstate 90 & State Route 534. (This is also the exit for Geneva-on-the-Lake
and many Ashtabula County wineries.) Turn south on SR 534 for about a mile to the intersection of SR 307 at the
bottom of a long hill. Turn right (west) and then turn left (south) at the next intersection. . . down the hill
to the Harpersfield Covered Bridge Metropark.
